Edgar Allan Poe was born in 1809. His father, David, left their family a little bit after Poe was born. His mother, Elizabeth, died when he was only two-years old. A man named John Allan took Poe in and gave him his middle name. After spending one year at the University of Virginia, he enlisted in the Army, merely because he could not pay for his college costs. Soon, he was expelled from the army for not attending classes. He then moved to Baltimore to live with his aunt and her daughter, Virginia, who was Poe's soon-to-be wife. Edgar Allan Poe and Virginia got married when he was 27 and Virginia was only 13. Later on, Virginia's health was deteriorating. Poe turned to alcohol to cope with her illness. Virginia then died of tuberculosis and Poe died one year later. His death is a mystery.

Edgar Allan Poe died from unknown reasons. Doctors had many theories on how he died. Some thought that he died of things such as; epilepsy, hypoglycemia, beating, rabies, alcohol, murder, and/or heart failure. He was also believed to be a victim of "cooping". "Cooping" is developed when the victim is subjected to voter fraud. The victim is beaten several times and dressed up differently each time as they vote many times. Poe's death is still unknown as the theories were not proven.

"Men have called me mad; but the question is not yet settled, whether madness is or is not the loftiest intelligence– whether much that is glorious– whether all that is profound– does not spring from disease of thought– from moods of mind exalted at the expense of the general intellect." - Edgar Allen Poe. This is how Poe felt about himself and how he thought people thought of him.
